b) Think about shapes, colors & balance – often you can control these elements
c) Create an emphasis on the main subject
i) You can use light to do this
ii) You can use composition to do this
d) Balance is known as composition – apply the Rule of 3rds
i) Look for strong lines
ii) Depth is good
iii) Divide the viewfinder into 3rds both vertically and horizontally
e) If you’re not sure if it has good structure or not, stand back far from it – does the general shape and color of the main focal point still stand out?

a) Almost all pictures have detail so this is not the hard part

1) Where is the contrast?
2) Where/what is the focal point?
3) What elements give this photo depth?
4) What are the strongest lines located?
